When you undergo any surgical procedure, there is some scarring that is expected. This is also same when you undergo hair transplants. Unfortunately, the scarring will be more evident and may affect your confidence in case the skin does not heal well, or if the operation did not go well.
That’s when Scalp Micropigmentation can help to conceal the scarring and help get your confidence back. There are two main types of scarring that a hair transplant patient experience. And below we explain how scalp micropigmentation treatment helps a hair transplant patient overcome their scars.
In this particular method of hair transplant, hair follicles are extracted on a large scale. It is also called as the strip method and is the most common type of hair transplant performed. A horizontal incision on the back and side of the patient’s head is made by the surgeon during the surgery. A strip of skin around 20 cm in length is used in this transplant. These then are divided into smaller grafts that are anywhere between 1-6 healthy hair follicles.
Once the hair transplantation or operation is done, the main side effects of this particular procedure are the long scar that is the result of the skin extraction. And if there is further hair loss in the same area, the scars become more visible.
And that’s when Scalp Micropigmentation uses a particular technique to apply pigment to the scar tissue to conceal it. Pigmentation is added to the affected area and also the skin surrounding it. There are cases, where the SMP treatment is applied to the entire scalp if there is hair loss in the treated area.
The type of scars from FUE is quite easier to manage with the scalp micropigmentation. This is due to the fact that they are less visible than the strip scars and can be easily blended with the surrounding skin. SMP can always be used to cover the FUE scars. The pigmentation is perfectly matched by the practitioner so that there is no clear difference or the camouflage technique will be used.
As compared to undamaged skin, the tissue that is scarred is far less predictable. It will take 2-3 sessions of SMP for fixing the scarring done by FUE. In some cases, there are chances of it taking longer.
The answer is yes. Scalp micropigmentation is a treatment that can be used successfully as a cosmetic tattoo to cover all the scars and includes the hair transplantation scars.
